Madeira and Porto Santo offers a unique experience to practice golf where the horizon of the field can give life to the ocean view.
Opened in 1993, Palheiro Golf was designed by Cabell B.Robinson, within the property of a beautiful 200-year-old country estate, the «Quinta do Palheiro».
On this 18-hole course, set out over 6086m2, there is a breathtaking view over the bay of Funchal, and a natural setting which includes a garden with over twenty endemic species of Madeira (including the Laurel) classified by Unesco as World Natural Heritage. As part of its commitment to the environment, only electrically powered buggies are now used at Palheiro Golf, which was renovated in 2003.
SANTO DA SERRA GOLF
The sea and mountain views from the course of Santo da Serra Golf Club make it one of the most spectacular in Europe.
Renovated in 1991 by Robert Trent Jones Senior, it was originally built in 1937, which makes it the oldest golf course in Madeira.
The 9003m2 of the 27-hole course make up the ideal green for beginners and professionals alike, which explain why Santo da Serra Golf is host to the Madeira Open.
Santo da Serra is ranked as the 12th Best Golf Course amongst the 75 existing in Portugal.
PORTO SANTO GOLF
Designed by golf champion Severiano Ballesteros, Porto Santo Golf stretches out across two stunning playing areas, with cliffs at north and lakes at south.
The 6434m2 18-hole course opened in October 2004. The course is Par 72, made up of 6 par 3, 6 par 4 and 6 par 5.
There is also a par 3, 9-hole course (Pitch & Putt), which opened in June 2005.
Porto Santo Golf is located next to the beautiful Porto Santo beach and adjoins both a comprehensive tennis facility and a horse riding one.
